Holiday Season In America

I don’t know what it is but around October ( my birth month), people in America start becoming sentimental and start giving me food and inviting me to their houses to eat (not as much this year though because of CoVid-19 pandemic), but I am not complaining. I am thankful! 🦃🍁 🍽

How To Know If Your Relatives, Friends, CoWorkers and Other people you associate with Are Racist.

First let me remind you the person viewing this I am of a mixed ethnicity because my ancestors are white, black and asian. My friends are White, black, asian, hispanic. I don’t evaluate people by the color of their skin, I evaluate people based on how they treat me and how I observe they treat others. I don’t go around hating white people, hispanic people and asian people because my whole family is mixed ( which is the case of most Jamaicans and Caribbean people). In every race you have some stupid people. How To Know If Your Relatives, Friends, CoWorkers and Other people you associate with Are Racist. These are some pages from the book “Stupid White Men” by Michael Moore ( Who is White). I first found out about this book while I was working in a book store in London while I was on a student exchange visa. This book was the number one bestseller in New York, London and many major cities. opened my eyes to many realities of the world I live in. If possible please order this book availab

When You Help A Family Member From Jamaica And They End Up Becoming a Backstabber

I tried to help a family member with a similar situation as this girl. She had a disagreement with her mom and her mom would not continue to help her. I thought since I didn’t grow up with a mom who died when I was 5, and I received help from many people, I could pass on the blessing and I could help her. As soon as the girl got on her feet, she tried to make me lose my job because she couldn’t get her own way. I ended up telling my family it wasn’t going to work out and the girl left me in a whole bunch of financial problems. When I asked her family members to help me because of the financial problems she caused me, they stopped answering their phones. Sometimes you want to help family but it could end up costing you more than you imagine. When they don’t talk it can be bad because when they are planning against you, you don’t know until the situation is too late. They are not talking to you, but they are talking to someone else who you probably don’t approve of.

The Present Problem With America

I once met a guy who told me he liked me and he was mixed with Italian and Mexican. Ok, that sounds exciting! 😍🥰😄I thought, and in my head I began planning exciting trips and had visions of me and him traveling the world. Maybe we could travel to Jamaica 🇯🇲 and Italy 🇮🇹 and Mexico 🇲🇽 one day to explore our roots.  I think he said his dad was from Italy and his mom from Mexico. So his parents came to America as immigrants. Ok so we have a lot in common, I thought. We are immigrants. But then he said he doesn’t like immigrants because they are the ones taking away the jobs from Americans ( he calls himself American because he was born in America), making it harder for him to get a job and using up the resources. 😲Not good, I thought. I don’t like where this conversation is heading. He continued to say  that’s why he is voting for Trump because Trump is going to stop the immigrants from taking away the opportunities  that belong to Americans. And that’s why he need to build the

Children Whose Families Dont Speak English Are At A Disadvantage

One of my coworkers has a friend who is Hispanic. She can speak English, but she speaks mainly Spanish at home. Her son is 7 and is struggling with English at school but is otherwise very smart. His teacher told the mom to sign a form that he is “Special Ed”. The mom refused to sign the form and I met her and told her she made the right decision. I am so angry at the teacher and it is not even my son. What a wicked set of people! Next thing they are probably going to want to tell the mom to put her son on medication and I hope she refuses. She only needs to get tutoring for her son or move him to a better school. Can you imagine having that on your record and it follows you through every institution you attend for the rest of your life? What would you do if it were your child? You already know I am going to have to write an angry blog about this!!!#minoritystrugglesinamerica #dontmeknoteachertellyouyourpickneyisretarded #telltheteacherfi@&%¥ #Iamachristiansoprayfortheteacherinstead

How The Inability to Speak English Has Adverse Effects on Children Of Immigrants

Just this week I met another mom who is from India and she was telling me that her son is having problems speaking English and they put on his school record that he has dyslexia. She said he is very smart at Math but has problems with English grammar. The school made him take a test and the school nurse agreed and signed documents and they even sent him to get tested with a psychologist where he had to do a 6 hour test and the psychologist signed that he has dyslexia. They then forced the mom to register the child in a school for children who have learning disabilities. When the mom shared her story with me, I was horrified! I told the mom she needed a friend who was a lawyer who can write a letter to the school superintendent. How can a kid with dyslexia score an A in math? What an evil and corrupt system that persecutes people that speak a different language and forces them to accept and believe that their kids are retarded just because they don’t speak English? Imagine the kids gra

Parents Protest Remote Learning

Oh Lordt... guess what I realized the other day... since I am on my computer everyday, an increased use of Zoom and other online meeting apps came easy for me because I  on my computer everyday from the time I was in College and also for work and my part time business. But guess what, there are many parents who don’t have an idea how to use Zoom or whatever online meeting app the school requires for the remote learning. So before everyone condemns these parents, find out the real reason they are protesting. Some parents are functional illiterates meaning they can’t read but they can recognize enough words to make it through the day and do their daily activities. And also CashApp. They know how to use CashApp. But then when teachers email homework to be done online these parents don’t have a clue where to start. And this MAY be one of the reasons they are protesting. So the schools may want to consider doing remote learning classes specifically for the parents. Oh and that reminds me. I

You Are Delusional

I have some friends that tell me I am delusional. Since my whole life has been based on Faith and dreaming big, and that has worked for me. I have to keep doing it. For example, some people told me I would never graduate high school but I did anyway. I got turned down for a student visa to the United States on my first application. I got it the next time applied. The admission counselors at my first US college told me there are no scholarships available for international students ( which I was before I got married)and I found scholarships anyway. Do you know that international students are charged three times the tuition that US Citizens are charged? Some people told me I won’t be able to graduate. I graduated anyway. When I graduated, everyone in my class tried to get a job at Texas Medical Center. Everyone said it is extremely hard to get a job there. I got a job there anyway. So to the people who tell me I am delusional, well my delusion has helped me. The same people turn aro

Revolution in 2020

We are experiencing a revolution. People are waking up. They are changing 400 year customs. How can we be using the same map that was made in 1569 in 2020? How can we be practicing laws that were made in the 1500s, 1800s? Practicing 400 year old traditions. It’s time for a change. People are tired of these systems that don’t work. We honor the great politicians and other lawmakers who have put in policies to move us forward, but it’s time for the elderly ones to step down gracefully and give the younger lawmakers with the vision to lead people in modern times. If the elderly lawmakers don’t step down, the younger ones are going to remove them by force. I am just saying what I see happening. I am not giving threats or trying to start something. Just commenting on what I am seeing. If you are not about change, if you are not helping your community move forward, well unfortunately there will be more rioting, looting and burning of communities. That’s just the reality.

How To Survive As a Foreign Student

Did you know that F-1  Students ( Foreign VISA Students) cannot work in the United States without a work permit? You are only allowed to work on campus. For many years before I got married, I was an F-1student. The law states that if you are found working off campus you can be deported. So here I am in the US as a foreign student, I can only work on campus, the campus jobs pay minimum wage, it is not enough to pay my rent and cover my expenses. So for many years I had to depend on my family here in Smerica, because I didn’t have a mother ( she died when I was 5) and I received no support from my father. So how did I survive? I applied for scholarships and joined school organizations ( including the Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa and others). Then I had many uninformed, jealous people ( some of them my “friends”, saying I am a freeloader, I don’t want to work, I am manipulating the system. Why? Because I am not suffering the way that in their opinion I am supposed to suffer. If I f

Black Woman Working In America 3

Life In America The reason I am sharing my experiences is so that it can help others. Especially my younger family members in College or who want to migrate to America. Maybe you can learn from my experience and be better equipped to fight for your rights. I did all the “Right” things to get ahead legally 1. I got a degree ( 4 actually ). 2. I applied for jobs and even took the low paying ones until I could get a better one. 3. I looked for a home in a nice safe neighborhood with the right schools. 4.I applied for scholarships some of them I received. 5. I joined community service organizations and volunteered. 6. I go to church and also volunteer at church to give back to my community. Still that is not enough. Why? 1. With a degree I have to wonder when I apply for jobs if they will think I am over qualified, if they will think I am trying to take their job, I have to deal with employers who don’t pay me on time and cause me to get behind on my bills and put me in debt. 2.

Black Woman Working In America Part 2

Life In America. Ever since I moved to America, I have constantly been in school. Enrolled in some type of academic program. There is this person that every time she saw me she would ask me, “ Nichole you are still in school???!!!!””. I would smile and tell her yes. And I move on. What I don’t say to her is “Yes I have to be in school so I can afford the life that you have been privileged to have”. Yes I am always trying to improve my credentials because even with 4 degrees I am still struggling so that I can live a comfortable lifestyle and be in a position to help my family. And yes I am pursuing degree number 5. Because I like the finer things in life and I want to be able to afford them legally. I am also an overachiever. Also whenever I am at a job, I have to “dumb” down myself so that my managers don’t  think I am trying to take their job and my fellow coworkers are always trying to compete with me. I  am black but I speak proper English ( how is that possible?), how do I afford

Chronicles of The Black Woman Working In America

True Story. Life In America. In order to survive, you either need to have a lawyer in your family, be married to a lawyer, have a lawyer as your best friend, or you have to be a lawyer, or know the law very well. If not, everybody including the government will try to steal your money. I started working at this healthcare company as a Superviser a few years ago. At the end of my first month of training, I only received half of the money I earned. I spoke to another Superviser who was my trainer. I made the mistake of showing him my pay stub. He told me to call HR. H R informed me that the Manager of my company changed the code in their system from “Pay” to “ Do Not Pay” and I had to speak with the Manager in order to receive the rest of my pay check. I spoke to the manager. He gave me this long lecture about how when he started out with the company he had to work his way up and he notice that a number of new recruits like myself just thought that because I had a degree I am better than

Rioting all over the US

Another disturbing issue I am seeing from several news reports are people who are not black but are looting and vandalizing places and spraying Black Lives Matter on the places they vandalize. They are not protesting, and they are not even from the city they are vandalizing. I just saw a news report that said over 200 people were arrested in one city and most of the people arrested were from out of town. So these people just travel from city to city just vandalizing for the thrill of it? That’s not right. If you are protesting, I hope your motive is to effect change and not to just jump on a bandwagon to spread a trail of destruction...

Rioting And Protests Against Racism

As Trevor Noah said, Amy Cooper could have been a catalyst that set off the current protests but think about it, a lot of people have been cooped up in their houses for 3 months. At some point something was going to trigger them to go off like this. Humans being cooped up in a confined space for extended periods is not normal. People need to go outside. Yes practice social distancing but just being inside is not healthy. People need to be exposed to the elements, take part in sporting activities, build their immune systems by eating healthily. So just keeping people cooped up without an orderly system of outdoor activities is also responsible for what we are seeing now.

The Struggles of Undocumented Mexicans in the United States

Many people come to America from Mexico as children. They are enrolled in school, they are allowed to get education even up to college level like Masters and PhDs. However they can’t work without a work permit and they have to reapply every year which they do. They can’t leave the US because if they do it’s hard for them to re-enter. They live in the US all their lives because that is the only life they know. They can’t go back to Mexico because they have no family there and even if they went, it would be a foreign place to them because they lived all their lives in the US. I met many individuals like this when I was in college. Even though they have gone to school in the United States from childhood to college, they are still treated as if they are international students
